Mono Lake Sunrise 3
Some of the tufa rock formations of Mono Lake rise to 30 feet high. In order to protect these unusual natural formations, the Mono Lake State Natural Reserve was formed in 1981. It's a well-known spot for photographers, but on this trip I got to be alone here late at night after everyone had left, and again very, very early in the morning before the sun had begun to rise. It was eerily beautiful, and I was sung to by several lone coyotes deep in the sagebush.
