Cheshire Cat Moon over Yosemite
In the wee hours of the morning in late August, the tiny sliver of a nearly-new moon reflects the light of the Earth as it rises over Yosemite shortly before sunrise. This phenomena is called "Earthshine", and as the sun rose it lessened and lessened until only the sun-lit portion of the moon remained visible.
